DR Radio | Interview with Layla Martin: How does shutting down our sexual-selves leave us vulnerable to emotional addiction and food issues?Mar 28, 2017
We’re conditioned to believe sexual desires and pleasures are evil and shameful. Our bodies were created by the Divine Essence with the capacity for vibrant desire and vast sensual pleasure! We are, by nature, sensuous beings, with all that word suggests -- given our senses to be able to smell, taste, touch, hear and see beauty and delight, in everything from a fine piece of fruit to a wonderful lover. It is through these feelings that we connect to our deepest desires and dreams, that we get excited about living life.
We’re taught that sex is shameful, and yet we are constantly bombarded with sexualized images through media and advertising. Meanwhile, abuse statistics are nothing less than staggering, as is the pressure on women to look a certain way, have a certain body type, carry ourselves as sex symbols. How do we feel safe in a world so full of mixed messages?
How do we reclaim our Divine right to sensual pleasure when we have been so conditioned to fear and shame? How do we overthrow centuries of false beliefs? How do we take ownership of our birthright of pleasure for ourselves, independent of any other person?
Truth: Our bodies are sacred temples. Self-compassion teaches us to treat ourselves with tender love and a deeper understanding of our true hungers. To be truly “turned on” is to live a life you love in a body you love!
